CafeTran Espresso 12 with CT-L1 Linguist

I am happy to release the new version of CafeTran Espresso featuring an interface to Artificial Intelligence (AI) powered by ChatGPT. The name of the interface is CT-L1 Linguist and it is designed to assist the experts in their language-related tasks. The range of its functions includes the following:

  • translation
  • correction
  • rephrasing
  • synonyms and variants of phrases
  • explanation of terms
  • shortening of sentences
  • listing of words based on defined criteria (e.g listing of nouns or verbs)
  • ability to provide the appropriate context for any task (e.g a style or field of translation)

The above list of applications does not end here as these are only a few predefined prompts for AI. CT-L1 also allows the user to set the message buttons with their own commands or functions for AI to perform linguistic tasks on a currently-translated sentence, a selected phrase or word.

Furthermore, CT-L1 Linguist has a built-in chat editor where you can interact with AI naturally in your language of choice and in a specified context.

Chatting with AI can solve lots of terminology issues quickly and efficiently. The huge advantage of CT-L1 Linguist is the smooth and unobtrusive integration into the translation process with the predefined messages for the AI triggered automatically or manually.

The design of the interaction with AI language models in CafeTran allows the user to assume a role of the supervisor reviewing the quality, modifying and accepting each single AI response as a translation or terminology suggestion.

CT-L1 stands for the first generation of CafeTran Linguist. Its icon in the user interface is a Greek sigma letter Σ which represents the set of symbols that form an alphabet in linguistics.

Please check this Knowledge Base article on how to connect CafeTran's CT-L1 Linguist to ChatGPT API.

New users are welcomed to download CafeTran Espresso 12 on their systems from its website here.

The licensed users can update their CafeTran installation as follows:

Important! Do not update before exporting your current projects. Please complete all your translation projects in your current CafeTran version before updating.

The current CafeTran 12.0.8 update can be performed via Drag and Drop as follows:

1. Make sure your current CafeTran version is at least 10.7. It also should run on Java 11 or a higher version. Please check CafeTran and Java version in CafeTran's Help > About panel.

2. Download 20240226_update.zip file from here and place it on your desktop. Do not unzip or rename the file after downloading.

Safari > Preferences > General > Open "safe" files after downloading or use another web browser for the download.

The 12.0.5 update adds the automatic tagging function performed by AI. To update your CafeTran installation, just follow the steps described in the original announcement at the start of this thread.

More tagging improvements in the latest 12.0.6 update:

- CT-L1 editor displays AI translation with the tags marked the same way as in the segments editors.

- The new AI prompt to transfer the tags into the user's translation.

The new prompt takes the button for Prompt 7. If this button is already taken by another prompt, replace that prompt (in Options > Prompts tab) with the following text:

Please *tansfer *x *tags* from the given {source} text into my {target} translation.

- The auto-assembling option "Transfer tags to matches" takes into account hidden non-translatable fragments behind purple tags. It is possible to exclude those tags from auto-assembling now.

To perform the update in your existing CafeTran installation, follow the instructions in the first post of this forum thread above.

CTE 12.0.7 update has been released. It allows the activation of CafeTran 12 unlimited version for ProZ.com Premium members. To update your existing CafeTran installation, follow the instructions in the first post of this forum thread above.

Just released CafeTran 12.0.8 update fixes a long standing issue affecting the users who translate from Asian languages on MacOS systems. They haven't been able to type in the text areas on the websites opened in CafeTran's internal web browser (e.g on Google Translate webpage). As the fix is inside the updated version of Java software, the affected users need to reinstall the program by downloading and installing it again. The usual update described in the opening post above is not enough.

The Windows, Linux and MacOS users unaffected by the described issue can update to the 12.0.8 version the usual way, without the need to reinstall CafeTran.

Other changes:

- New terms can be added to the selected glossary by holding the modifier key (CTRL on Windows, Command on Mac) and clicking at the glossary pane.

- Some minor polishing to the user interface (e.g a change of the default color theme in the Dashboard and in the display of the QA errors).

The 12.0.9 update brings some improvements in the clipboard workflow - the translation of source texts from the external application through the system clipboard:

- Automatic segmentation of the copied text.

- Added the toggle/switch button to let CafeTran pause capturing the copied source text. It is useful when the translator wishes to restore the regular copy and paste functionality without closing the project in the clipboard workflow.
