I'm talking about Trados projects.

This is how I do it now:

1. Add ¦ to the word delimiters at the Glossary tab in the Preferences.
2. Replace \n with ¦ in all source segments.
3. Translate the project.
4. Replace ¦ with \\n in the source and target segments. Note that you have to use two backslashes in the replacement field!

In the ideal situation CafeTran Espresso would also display "\n" as a new line character:
