I never realized this when I was using CTE under Windows, but thanks to Conky (Linux) I've just realized that every time that I launch CTE Java connects and stays connected to the Internet, both uploading and downloading things. And as soon as I close CTE the connection ceases.
Out of my curiosity, why such continuous connection? If Java were a separate installation it might trigger an upgrade process, but now that Java is embedded in CTE?
