Should we avoid sending glossaries/memories to Google Translate?

Should we avoid sending glossaries/memories to Google Translate, because we would help to improve their MT system?

Or is this just a naive thought, since Google will already have harvested our labour in other ways?

How can I send my glossary TM to Google Translate? I have never done that before.... ;-)

I will never help Google (nor Deepl for that matter) improve their translation skills as a principle, for I find it utterly counterproductive for us professional translators. Yes, they may harvest our labor in other ways (maybe), but I am determined to make no part of the game. Maybe this is a futile effort, as I know many translators think, but still.

By the way, while I recognize that nowadays both GT and Deepl do rather well with languages pairs such as English and Italian and other Romance languages, they are still far from being useful enough in other language pairs such as English and Japanese, and even less between Italian and Japanese.

I do sympathize with translators who are affected by machine translation, and really pity those who are just embracing the translation career.

I wonder where all those MTPE jobs come from: translation companies or direct clients? There are large corporations that already use MT on their own, and perhaps others that expressly ask translation agencies to use it in order to rip the benefits themselves too.

But, I suspect that the majority of clients, let's say small and medium companies, still know little to nothing of MTPE. Perhaps the problem for us translators lies in the fact that only the very translation companies are imposing MTPE on us to engross their, and only their profit. Am I wrong? If not, are translation companies our real enemy?

So true. I was hoping that my oldest child one day would follow His Great Example, but nowadays I would't advise her to become a translator sec.
