Making thinks simpler for the user

Internally, CafeTran Espresso 2019 uses regular expressions completely transparant (invisible for the user) for many tasks. E.g. the selection of all segments that don't contain any letters, is handled via a regular expression (that the user doesn't see/isn't bothered with).

How about taking this to the next level?

My proposal is to allow the user to insert literal strings, that (if instructed so) CafeTran Espresso 2019 internally will translate to regular expressions.

E.g.:

  • When the user adds Mayer & Müller GmbH & CO. KG to a glossary and defines this glossary to contain regular expressions, CafeTran Espresso 2019 will add (insert) all regular expressions that are needed to have this company name treated as a non-translatables.
  • When a user inserts a string like K23pZp2 into the Find box of the Find & Replace dialogue box and selects the checkbox Regular expressions, CafeTran Espresso 2019 will translate this string to a regular expression and also displays all similar matches.
  • In order to allow the user to still use user-defined regular expressions, the already common convention could be used: the user has to start the Find string with a pipe.
