CafeTran Espresso 2019 Forerunner

It is time to start rolling out the Forerunner (aka Preview) version of CafeTran Espresso 2019. This update and the subsequent builds this year will make up the CTE 2019 version to be released in December/January.

The update can be performed via Drag and Drop as follows:

1. Run CafeTran.

2. Download 20190105_update.zip file from here and place it on your desktop. Do not unzip or rename the file after downloading.

Note:   On Mac OSX system, Safari web browser may unzip the file automatically after downloading it. Before you download the update file, uncheck the  following Safari option:

Safari > Preferences > General > Open "safe" files after downloading.

3. Drag and Drop the downloaded 20190105-update.zip file anywhere in CafeTran's initial screen - the Dashboard.

Alternatively, you can install 20190105_update.zip file via the "Install Update" button in the Help > About panel instead of dragging and dropping.

Important! Please complete all your translation projects in your current CafeTran version before updating.

What's new in this update:

  • Autopilot. This may be a very handy feature during the Review or QA phase of translation. You can also use it when translating short, repetitive/similar phrases or numbers. It allows hands-free navigation with the set delay between the segments. The default delay of 2000 milliseconds (2 seconds) can be increased in Edit > Preferences > General tab. Activation/deactivation of the Autopilot is done via the Action menu. After that, you will notice the Autopilot button in the target segment editor. Click this button to turn on/off the Autopilot. Going to the next segment triggers off its functioning. To suspend it for a while (e.g for the correction of the current segment), press the Esc key or click the mouse on the target segment editor.
  • Automatic transfer of numbers being the full segments which end with the white space character.
  • Recognition of language variants in SDLTB termbases.
  • Support for subtitles (.itt and .srt file formats).
  • Added video resource preview for translation of subtitles.

Enjoy!

Igor

The new update (2018102501) has just been uploaded. It features the following:

  • enhancements to the Auto-complete feature (e.g. autocompletion in the middle of words, full MT results).
  • filtering out of the deleted text in Ms Word and LibreOffice source documents with the track changes enabled (only for the new projects).
  • restored Import and Export of Preferences in the Preferences panel.
  • TM pane is refreshed after the deletion of the segments from the memory.

As there are changes to the filters, please complete any unfinished Word or LibreOffice projects before updating.

Thanks,

Igor

On my Windows 10 PC, the dialogue box closes properly.

Thanks, Igor, for the new feature.

BTW: This dialogue box doesn't close, when you press the ESC key.

The new build of CTE 2019 Forerunner is available for download, with the following:

  • added Java memory usage indicator in the Help > About panel

The feature helps to determine the size of Java memory assigned for CafeTran.

Please download and install this new build (2018101601) as described in the announcement post above. Thanks!

> it doesn't remove the filtered segments from all the TMs.

The "Remove TMX filtered units" feature in latest build (2018101001) works with multiple TM selection too. Please update as described in the announcement post above.

> it doesn't remove the filtered segments from all the TMs.

Yes, the feature works for one TM at a time. It is being corrected to work for multiple selection as well, for the next build. Thanks!

Thank you Igor for these new implementations. It's a bit convolute, but I does the job as intended.

Just one thing regarding the new "Task > TMX Memory > Remove TMX filtered units": I did a quick test and it seems that it doesn't remove the filtered segments from all the TMs attached to the project (in my case it removed them only from the ProjectTM although I selected an additional TM in the small pop-up window). Have I missed something?

>New Term Dialog can add multiple entries to the glossary - separated by the new line.

Thank you very much!

The new build of CTE 2019 Forerunner is available for download, with the following:

  • Automatic case adjustment (e.g to lower or upper case) during Auto-completion.
  • New tasks (in the Task menu): Bookmark segments and Unbookmark segments (e.g. for bookmarking filtered segments).
  • New Filter: Unbookmarked segments.
  • Task > TMX Memory > Remove TMX filtered units can also detect the same contents in the filtered project segments (not in the TMX edit mode), and remove such segments from the TMX Memory.
  • New Term Dialog can add multiple entries to the glossary - separated by the new line.
  • Export of filtered segments as a bilingual Word document. The return import is also possible into exactly the same filter only.
  • TMX Memory edit mode: Export and Import as a bilingual Word document.
  • Fixed some minor issues.

Please download and install this new build (2018100901) as described in the announcement post above. Thanks!

>I know that in some dialogues,  the order of buttons depends on the OS. Any chance to hardcode/fix this?

Another interesting approach would be that the average user might expect to find the most common buttons at the same position, e.g. the OK button left most.

> Counting from the right hand, which holds the mouse, it is last in the row and requires the longest mouse travel. The similar applies to scrollbars in apps. They are on the right-hand side because it requires less effort to reach them.

Hm, I have two left-handers in my family, I have no idea how their brain processes the right-hand scroll bar. Or how they process the infos on buttons. Or how this works for RTL languages (any RTL language translator here?).

BTW: I know that in some dialogues,  the order of buttons depends on the OS. Any chance to hardcode/fix this?

I'm working with two monitors (extended desktop), and I've just noticed (well, I *think* the behavior was different before, not sure) that when hovering a hit or the number of a TM entry, the pop-up window spans to both monitors. Because of the different resolution, the result is a confusing, I would prefer the pop-up self contained within one display. If that was the case before, please consider reverting to this behavior.

Otherwise, this is just a thought.

Attaching screenshot. The darker gray vertical line marks the separation.

Interesting approach!

Counting from the right hand, which holds the mouse, it is last in the row and requires the longest mouse travel.  The similar applies to scrollbars in apps. They are on the right-hand side because it requires less effort to reach them.

Should this Memories/ Glossaries Button really be the first in the row?
