CafeTran Espresso 2019 Forerunner

It is time to start rolling out the Forerunner (aka Preview) version of CafeTran Espresso 2019. This update and the subsequent builds this year will make up the CTE 2019 version to be released in December/January.

The update can be performed via Drag and Drop as follows:

1. Run CafeTran.

2. Download 20190105_update.zip file from here and place it on your desktop. Do not unzip or rename the file after downloading.

Note:   On Mac OSX system, Safari web browser may unzip the file automatically after downloading it. Before you download the update file, uncheck the  following Safari option:

Safari > Preferences > General > Open "safe" files after downloading.

3. Drag and Drop the downloaded 20190105-update.zip file anywhere in CafeTran's initial screen - the Dashboard.

Alternatively, you can install 20190105_update.zip file via the "Install Update" button in the Help > About panel instead of dragging and dropping.

Important! Please complete all your translation projects in your current CafeTran version before updating.

What's new in this update:

  • Autopilot. This may be a very handy feature during the Review or QA phase of translation. You can also use it when translating short, repetitive/similar phrases or numbers. It allows hands-free navigation with the set delay between the segments. The default delay of 2000 milliseconds (2 seconds) can be increased in Edit > Preferences > General tab. Activation/deactivation of the Autopilot is done via the Action menu. After that, you will notice the Autopilot button in the target segment editor. Click this button to turn on/off the Autopilot. Going to the next segment triggers off its functioning. To suspend it for a while (e.g for the correction of the current segment), press the Esc key or click the mouse on the target segment editor.
  • Automatic transfer of numbers being the full segments which end with the white space character.
  • Recognition of language variants in SDLTB termbases.
  • Support for subtitles (.itt and .srt file formats).
  • Added video resource preview for translation of subtitles.

Enjoy!

Igor

Is this version "usable" in Mavericks? Ie. is it heavier from the current one and how much free RAM do you recommend?

This is still from CafeTran Espresso 2018 Akua Update 12, but really nice:

I must confess I wondered a moment what CXT means …

Context match?

No, simply CONTEXT here (windows 6 layout with context segments activated)

> is this version "usable" in Mavericks? Is it heavier from the current one and how much free RAM do you recommend?

It is the same as with the previous version in terms of usability and RAM.

The new build of CTE 2019 Forerunner is available for download. It features the following:

  • recognition of synonyms in .sdltb termbases.
  • glossaries selection at QA > Terms consistency check.
  • including non-translatable duplicates from the current segment in the F4 list.

Please download and install this new build (2018092101) as described in the announcement post above. Thank you.

Thanks Igor, the ‘recognition of synonyms in .sdltb termbases’ works perfectly!

Michael

Hey, Michael, Can you post an image, just to enjoy it?

Hi Hans, sure.

In my Studio termbase, in a single entry:

aanpassingsdatum

aanpassingdatum

datum aanpassing

datum van aanpassing

=

modification date

adjustment date

In a CafeTran glossary, this would look like:

aanpassingsdatum;aanpassingdatum;datum aanpassing;datum van aanpassing[TAB]modification date;adjustment date

In the resulting TMX(via the Memory > Import > Import SDLTB termbase method) this results in 8 separate entries. Make sure you allow duplicates in the TM options displayed as the file is being loaded!

Have a look:

Of course, this leads me to wonder: if this is possible, how about conversions from:

SDLTB > CafeTran glossary (with synonyms)?

CafeTran glossary > SDLTB (with synonyms)?

CafeTran: the veritable Swiss Army Knife of CAT tools!  ;-)

Speaking of swiss army knives, that just gave me another ‘Beijerdea’ (hope Igor is reading this):

How about a special version of CafeTran, which is considerably cheaper, but aimed only at data conversions, manipulation and editing. This version would not allow the user to actually translate, but would be marketed solely as a Translation Software Swiss Army Knife, offering (in one handy, cross-platform place) invaluable features such as:

• TMX editing/editor

• Termbase format conversions (SDL <> Wordfast <> tab-del <> Excel <> DVX <>memoQ, etc.)

• TM format conversions (SDL <> tab-del <> Excel <> DVX <>memoQ, etc.)

• Variables/non-translatables conversion (SDL <> tab-del <> Excel <> DVX <>memoQ, etc.)

• SDL/Transit package viewing/extraction

• XLIFF QA module

• etc.

Sounds pretty darned cool to me!

Michael

Of course I've suggested something like this already years ago. Though at that time only for statistics.

Don't forget that CafeTran is unable to display term duplicates when „Display longest match only“ is activated (then it displays not even the most recent, but the longest target term - a little bit absurd). See here

Thank the Lord for glossary selection at QA. It was a pet peeve of mine. Now it's useful and practical. Thanks Igor!

>Thank the Lord for glossary selection at QA.

This is indeed very handy! It's smarter to have all checkboxes unchecked when the dialogue box is opened: normally you'll only want to check one glossary to use it for QA.

The new build of CTE 2019 Forerunner is available for download, with the following improvements to the spell-checker function.

  • recognition of words with the curly apostrophe (instead of the typewriter/straight apostrophe) inside.
  • ignoring short (fewer than 4 characters in length) upper-case words.
  • improved display of Task > List words with unknown spelling - see the buttons to add easily the listed words to user's spell-checker dictionary.

Please download and install this new build (2018092401) as described in the announcement post above. Thanks!
