CafeTran Espresso 2019 Forerunner

It is time to start rolling out the Forerunner (aka Preview) version of CafeTran Espresso 2019. This update and the subsequent builds this year will make up the CTE 2019 version to be released in December/January.

The update can be performed via Drag and Drop as follows:

1. Run CafeTran.

2. Download 20190105_update.zip file from here and place it on your desktop. Do not unzip or rename the file after downloading.

Note:   On Mac OSX system, Safari web browser may unzip the file automatically after downloading it. Before you download the update file, uncheck the  following Safari option:

Safari > Preferences > General > Open "safe" files after downloading.

3. Drag and Drop the downloaded 20190105-update.zip file anywhere in CafeTran's initial screen - the Dashboard.

Alternatively, you can install 20190105_update.zip file via the "Install Update" button in the Help > About panel instead of dragging and dropping.

Important! Please complete all your translation projects in your current CafeTran version before updating.

What's new in this update:

  • Autopilot. This may be a very handy feature during the Review or QA phase of translation. You can also use it when translating short, repetitive/similar phrases or numbers. It allows hands-free navigation with the set delay between the segments. The default delay of 2000 milliseconds (2 seconds) can be increased in Edit > Preferences > General tab. Activation/deactivation of the Autopilot is done via the Action menu. After that, you will notice the Autopilot button in the target segment editor. Click this button to turn on/off the Autopilot. Going to the next segment triggers off its functioning. To suspend it for a while (e.g for the correction of the current segment), press the Esc key or click the mouse on the target segment editor.
  • Automatic transfer of numbers being the full segments which end with the white space character.
  • Recognition of language variants in SDLTB termbases.
  • Support for subtitles (.itt and .srt file formats).
  • Added video resource preview for translation of subtitles.

Enjoy!

Igor

> an additional button...

The additional button for switching between "New Term" and "New Fragment" dialogs has been added in the build 2018100403. After all, this new UI element is more intuitive than holding CTRL key.  Context segments have been made clickable in the filtered view.

Please download and install this new build (2018100403) as described in the announcement post above. Thanks!

Yes, that's a good idea but I need to see a broader interest in this feature to justify another UI button.

A more sophisticated but easier solution would be a change from "Cancel" to "Switch" when pressing Ctrl (and indeed propagating this feature).

 > Or an additional button "Switch to fragment memories" / "Switch to glossaries"

Yes, that's a good idea but I need to see a broader interest in this feature to justify another UI button.

> I only have a Cancel button

Yes, it is the Cancel button (not Close).

> while closing the "New Term" dialog via the Close button. I should have made it clearer.

I only have a Cancel button, but closing the "New Term" dialog via the Cancel button with Ctrl pressed works in the manner described above. It even switches back.

Nice, but not intuitive. Perhaps an additional shortcut would do even better work. Or an additional button "Switch to fragment memories" / "Switch to glossaries". There is still plenty of space in these dialog boxes.

> Clone or Duplicate

Both are pretty good approximations. :)

Maybe my problem above was due to some delay in saving the file (I'd expect that this happens immediately when auto-save = 1).

Good question: What happens when Auto-Save = 0? Never save automatically, I assume?

BTW: the preferences say "Auto-Save" the 2 occurrences in the Solutions section say "Autosave" (Freshdesk does not have a heuristic search funktion, so searching "Auto-save" results in 0 pages. I assume the 1st one is the correct version.

> Holding the CTRL key while closing the "New Term" dialog switches to the "New fragment" dialog

while closing the "New Term" dialog via the Close button. I should have made it clearer.

> How about changing the name from Clone to Sibling?

Instead of sibling would prefer Clone or Duplicate (well, after changing it is neither a clone nor a duplicate, to be exact), so "New Term" would be the precise naming here.

> Please make a search or find a match for the cloned term.

Strange. Now they all are there (Auto-save was 1).

> Igor: The switch should happen if you have a glossary and a TM with enabled Fragments option activated.

>Hans:Tested twice. Memory set to Segments and Fragments. Still the dialogue box doesn't switch when I click on OK.

Same here. I even reactivated the term window. Maybe a wrong key allocation, or because we have customized the term shortcut. Would be nice to have the same for the shortcut without new term window (with the writable memories with fragments automatically selected).

>The new build (2018100402) has the Clone button grayed initially. Thanks!

Good finking, Torsten!

How about changing the name from Clone to Sibling?

  1. each of two or more children or offspring having one or both parents in common; a brother or sister.
    synonyms:brother or sister;
    brothers and/or sisters
"the birth of a sibling is a stressful event in the life of a child"

Added "Clone" function to "Term Editor". It enables the creation of a new term based on the currently edited term.

> What should I see?

Igor: A duplicate (or rather a derived) entry in your glossary. Of course, there is no point of making an exact copy. You might wish to change something in the edited entry.

Correct. Thanks!

Holding the CTRL key while closing the "New Term" dialog switches to the "New fragment" dialog. The switch also works while closing the "New fragment" dialog.

> nothing seems to happen.

Igor: The switch should happen if you have a glossary and a TM with enabled Fragments option activated.

Tested twice. Memory set to Segments and Fragments. Still the dialogue box doesn't switch when I click on OK.

Anyone else on Mac?

> No, nothing

Please make a search or find a match for the cloned term.

> maybe the button should be greyed out until one of the terms has been changed?

The new build (2018100402) has the Clone button grayed initially. Thanks!

If I understand correctly, you need to change first and the click "Clone" (because only clicking "Clone" closes the term window). However, to make the procedure clearer, maybe the button should be greyed out until one of the terms has been changed?`

> A duplicate (or rather a derived) entry in your glossary.

No, nothing. I can change the term and click on Clone, but after checking the glossary with an external editor, nothing has happened. Maybe because "display longest only" is being activated?

Even if there happened something, a kind of visual hint (short blinking of the button, changing the button color to green) for this special operation before closing the window would reassure the user.
