I have been sent a SDLXLIFF file for proofreading. The file now has the suffix docx. and the client has asked me to provide an SDLXLIFF file. As I have only started to use CT yesterday, I'm a little overwhelmed. These are my first steps with a CAT tool and I don't know how to export a readable file unless I use html.
Secondly there are tags in source and target that I can't remove but they shouldn't be there since it's the contents page of the document.
Sorry if this all sounds terrible naive.
Welcome to CafeTran! I'm just another user here.
I wouldn't recommend learning a new CAT tool while working with tight deadlines or with external projects in general. You should take the time to learn the ropes first!
In case you are looking for a place to start, check out the official knowledge base (Solutions): https://cafetran.freshdesk.com/support/solutions
Regarding the proofreading of SDLXLIFF files, please note CafeTran does not handle the Track Changes feature, in case the client expects you to use it. There are however other solutions if needed.
If you have opened an SDLXLIFF file in CafeTran, after pressing the Finalize button, the file should be deliverable as is. It should be still an SDLXLIFF file. CafeTran edits and saves it directly at the same file location, if needed make a backup beforehand.
If the original document was a Word file, only SDL Trados can export the SDLXLIFF file back to Word, just as only CafeTran can export a Word file that was imported as a native XLIFF in CafeTran back to Word.
For tags, I prefer to leave others provide a reply. I'll only say that source segments are not editable for external projects.
Thank you for your comment. Fortunately I'm not under time pressure (yet) and decided to do my first steps with CT using a proofreading job. Yet, there is a lot to navigate through and learn, so I appreciate your suggestion. The knowledge base is very helpful.
