Layout 6: Works perfectly here after some personal layout adjustments. Thanks you!

I am happy to hear it. If you wish you can attach a screenshot of it whenever convenient.
Indeed the layout is really great, but needs some individual fixing if you are not a friend (yet) of the matchboard. The major problem I see is that there is no indication of the segment state (nor of the number) in the segment itself. My first, second and third thought was that there is somehow an empty segment above. This indication is still rather misleading (and it takes really much space). If not mentioned yet: This layout is first choice for all screens with a lower resolution.
The thing to have the remaining grid (the following segments) as a tab (that can be superseeded by any other tab) seems a bit unusual at first, but it is really an intelligent idea. Well done.
Thanks! The current segment status indication (in the Layout 6) directly above the editors takes a bit of space. I wil experiment with placing it in the editors toolbar and see if it looks better.
> the Vertical Editor between the two parts of the grid
That's en excellent idea. I still cannot understand the preference for their horizontal (side by side) placement seen in other CATs. To me, it is so unnatural to look sideways.
Igor, just a note to say that I removed my previous post that contained a screenshot, since there is a link to this thread from Proz.com... and that makes the posts (and screenshots) visible to a lot of people.
Not that my screenshot was very confidential, but I just felt a bit uncomfortable with this...
It would be nice if the Freshdesk forum could display screenshots only to registered persons, not to visitors. I know by experience that other forums have this option in the administration panel.
The new build (2018052201) of update 8 is available. There is a slight change in highlighting of the current segment status for the new Layout 6 Compact. Now, the status marking of the currently-edited segment is limited to its status box only. The previous highlighting of the whole row gave the impression that the edited segment was empty.
Please download and install the new build of the update 8 as described in the announcement post above. Thank you.
There is a new build (2018052301) of update 8 available. In this update, the search back and forward arrows are moved from the top search bar to the search field below. The change allows for narrowing the main window for even more compact view. For example:
1. Set the View > Window layout > Layout 6 Compact and undock the Matchboard to the tabs below.
2. Switch the editors orientation to the vertical one, unchecking View > Segment editors > Horizontal segment editors.
3. Resize the main windows as much as you can to see how compact CafeTran can be.
Please download and install the new build of the update 8 as described in the announcement post above.
Two problems here:
1. When I reopen a project, the Editor doesn't go back to where it was when I closed the project.
2. (Not specific to the new update) In the screenshot below, what's the meaning of the orange frame? Or what's the difference between 1984 (no orange frame) and 1985?
When switching off the toolbars (what makes even more effect with a vertical segment editors, this setting remains valid through all layouts, even the templates. For me this is fine, others might be disturbed. This is not really a systematical approach, is it?
> the Editor doesn't go back to where it was when I closed the project.
If you mean returning to the last edited segment, it does go back for CafeTran projects. It also returns to the last edited segment in projects created in other CAT tools if you return to them directly after closing, that is, not cutting in with another project. Or just type the last segment number in the Search field and press Enter to set it for translation/edition.
> what's the meaning of the orange frame?
The orange frame means the currently-edited segment just like in other layouts where the whole row is orange-framed.
> When switching off the toolbars...
Hiding toolbars is a global option not tied to any specific layout.
> Nice, but:
Thanks for the feedback.
