What's new:

  • The frequently-requested layout that integrates editors and the grid - see View > Window Layout > Layout 6 Compact. Although it is recommended for reviewing your translations, some translators might wish to use it for translating too, as it is a popular layout in other tools.
  • QA > Initial capitalization check catches the false positives that start with numbers.

Thank you,

In update 9, it is solved by the keyboard shortcut (CTRL+SHIFT+H).

One more glitch:

When filtering, the filtered segments are only displayed above, while the grid below remains "as is". And when having the filtered view, the actual segment is being displayed a 2nd time in the grid above. Both quite confusing (and with an external mxliff file -> Memsource, not memoQ)

That's why we are here. ;-)

I would second Michael's proposal of having this box integrated directly at the right of the opened segment. However I assume this is pretty hard to code without disturbing other layouts or having unwanted effects in different OSs or screen resolutions. Perhaps it might be better to switch back to the design solution before the last build.

The new View > Layout 6 Compact is in the phase of trying out various arrangements for the status of the current segment. The users provide various feedback, and maybe there is still room for the improvement in the next builds.

Addendum: With this last build, you cannot jump anymore to the unfiltered segment position when working in a filtered view (in other words: the second, "real" segment number is missing then).

Just for illustration

I assume this feature has been created with different settings than this,

Maybe this saves a bit of horizontal space. But IMHO a not-so-good unintuitive solution has been replaced by a really (sorry to say that) horrible, unintuitive solution.

Before, number and status had still a kond of context. Now the context has gone and the background for unchecked segments has changed from light grey to brown ... not even the size fits to the rest of the bar (probably parameters that can be set differently). Not to speak of the strange display of fuzzy numbers.

Ctrl+Shift+Equals works here (on Windows)!

Michael

I know it's not strictly related to the update, but is there a keyboard shortcut for changing the case to initial capital in all  selected words, e.g. "hot dog" to "Hot Dog"? If there isn't I would like to request one.

Hi Igor,

I actually think that Hans' idea regarding "hiding the toolbars until you hover over the divider" in Layout 7 is probably the best way to deal with the buttons.

Michael

A new build (2018052801) of update 8 is available. There is a slight change to the Layout 6 Compact. The status of the currently-edited segment in this layout is shown in the grid's toolbar now. It saves some horizontal space in the grid just above the editors.

Please download and install the new build of the update 8 as described in the announcement post above.

Important!  Please finish all the projects before applying this update. Otherwise, the export to the target language  document may fail in the projects started with the previous updates.

> Phew, that was a lot of questions! Wonder what you think!?

1. Some slight change to Layout 6 to save more space is under way.

2.  Now, you can hide those toolbars and use shortcuts. I will consider this option to put them at the top though I believe most users like the proximity of the main action buttons to the editors.

3. Not possible with the current design. The other tabs would constantly resize (up and down) on each edited segment. Besides, having manually adjustable size of the editors has its advantages too - especially when the length of translation varies from the source segment length.

> The new layout "fails" when having a filtered view with "Display current segment context" activated.

The display of context (surrounding segments) with the filter should be turned off in Layout 6 - see the Filter menu. It is off by default in the next build. Please use one of the other five layouts if the filtered segment's context display is needed.

The new layout "fails" when having a filtered view with "Display current segment context" activated.

Maybe this can be optimized.

PS: my current favourite is probably Layout 4: Desktop!
