> I still cannot understand the preference for their horizontal (side by
side) placement seen in other CATs. To me, it is so unnatural to look
sideways.
I'd really agree on this (as I got used to this), but why then does the Layout 6 have horizontal editors then? Or in other words, why isn't there a layout 7 (= layout 6 with vertical editors)?
Two more remarks:
> why isn't there a layout 7...
Just uncheck View > Segment editors > Horizontal segment editors option if you prefer Vertical editors. There is no need to create yet another layout option here.
> after undocking the matchboard...
Please dock or undock the tabs only after all the resources finished loading and set in the interface (not as they are being loaded). CafeTran keeps the Matchboard undocked (if you wish so) after restart.
There is a new build (2018052501) of update 8 available. It changes the filters by showing the standalone space at the start of some formatting tags, instead of hiding it inside the tag as before.
Please download and install the new build of the update 8 as described in the announcement post above.
Important! Please finish all the projects before applying this update to CafeTran's filters. Otherwise, the export to the target language document may fail in the projects started with the previous updates.
Just a BIG "Thank you!" for the Layout 6, Igor. Though it may not be (yet) perfect, it's a HUGE improvement (at least for me). It makes working with CT a real pleasure. :-)
My (developer's) perfect Layout is 4 - with the main focus on resources in tabs, but it's great that you can find another CTE layout really enjoyable. Thanks!
Hi Igor, is there a way to check if the program took the update?
I followed your instructions but I can't tell if it took it or not.
Hi,
After dragging and dropping the downloaded .zip update file onto CafeTran's Dashboard, You should see the message: "Installation completed. Please restart CafeTran".
Please, update only when you complete your current projects - before starting a new project.
Hi Igor,
I have a couple of questions about the new Layout 6 Compact, which I am very happy with, but feel could still use a bit of tweaking to make the most of its basic ("editing in the grid") design. Have a look at my screenshot:
1. If you look at my blue lines, I think it would be great if the segment No. could be moved to the right of the segment content, to bring it in line with the above and below segments. This would get rid of the IMO visually confusing extra empty space above the src/trgt panes.
2. A second question is if it would be possible to (optionally) place all the buttons elsewhere (either at the top or at the bottom, as indicated with the black line)? I only use them sometimes, and so could almost hide them, but since I do use them sometimes, I would prefer them visible, but not where they are, as I think this spoils the great idea behind editing in the grid.
3. I am also wondering if it would be possible to (optionally) make it so the relative size of the current segment is automatically kept the same as the surrounding segments (like in memoQ/Déjà Vu/Studio, etc.). I like to have the font of all text in the grid the same, and all the boxes a similar size in relation to each other. I think this makes it much clearer (visually) where the current segment is located vis a vis the surrounding segments.
Phew, that was a lot of questions! Wonder what you think!?
Michael
PS: my current favourite is probably Layout 4: Desktop!

Maybe this can be optimized.
> The new layout "fails" when having a filtered view with "Display current segment context" activated.
The display of context (surrounding segments) with the filter should be turned off in Layout 6 - see the Filter menu. It is off by default in the next build. Please use one of the other five layouts if the filtered segment's context display is needed.

1. Some slight change to Layout 6 to save more space is under way.
2. Now, you can hide those toolbars and use shortcuts. I will consider this option to put them at the top though I believe most users like the proximity of the main action buttons to the editors.
3. Not possible with the current design. The other tabs would constantly resize (up and down) on each edited segment. Besides, having manually adjustable size of the editors has its advantages too - especially when the length of translation varies from the source segment length.
A new build (2018052801) of update 8 is available. There is a slight change to the Layout 6 Compact. The status of the currently-edited segment in this layout is shown in the grid's toolbar now. It saves some horizontal space in the grid just above the editors.
Please download and install the new build of the update 8 as described in the announcement post above.

Hi Igor,
I actually think that Hans' idea regarding "hiding the toolbars until you hover over the divider" in Layout 7 is probably the best way to deal with the buttons.
Michael
I know it's not strictly related to the update, but is there a keyboard shortcut for changing the case to initial capital in all selected words, e.g. "hot dog" to "Hot Dog"? If there isn't I would like to request one.
