I suspect something is broken with Joining segments. When I join segments, CT doesn't add a space in between them.

For example, I just merged:

Max.

30 punten

->

Max.30 punten

which should have course have become:

Max. 30 punten

You may have modified (or substituted) CafeTran's segmentation rules, which is the probable cause of incorrect joining.

Thanks, yes that must be what’s going on! That’ll teach me to mess with my seg rules 

If you need to modify the segmentation rules, build on (extend) the default ones instead of replacing them altogether. It is safer this way.

Thanks Igor, yes, I learned that the hard way this time ;-)

Well, I am having the same problem as Michael, on joining segments the space is not added, and even when I add it and join another sentence, the added space is deleted. I did not fiddle with segmentation rules.

Addendum to my previous message: a space is actually added for the first joined sentence, but following joined sentences get no added space

With non-empty target segments (the ones which have already been created), CT joins them in the unmodified/original form. You can change them (e.g inserting a space where needed) after the join action.

Igor,

After installing the Update I now run into a problem with propagation. I am working on this 16,000 word file which I received in Excel format. I had to join and split some segments and suddenly propagated content is in the wrong segment. In the attached screen capture you can view it. The propagated content of segment 497 ought to be in segment 495. This is true for all propagated segments, and all have the same shift. This never happened in the previous versions.

Did you use the second build of this update when the autopropagation occurred? It should read "CafeTran Espresso 2018 Forerunner 2017120401" in the Help > About. The first build had an issue with the Join segments function.

<<With non-empty target segments (the ones which have already been created), CT joins them in the unmodified/original form. You can change them (e.g inserting a space where needed) after the join action.>>

But I did not have to do that in former builds, and it's quite annoying as I often have translations where I have to join segments for precise character count ( paragraph with joined segments not longer than 350 chars).

But I did not have to do that in former builds

In older builds, CT always joined existing segments ignoring any changes in the target segment editor. In the recent builds, it takes changes in the editor into account before the Join segment action if the target segment is new (not created yet).

The new build of CTE 2018 Forerunner (2017120601) is available for download with the following:

- improvements in handling complex formatting for Ms Word filter.

- added "Show glossary fields" right-click option for the Matchboard.

Important! The update features some improvements to MS Word filter. Please complete all your Word translation projects in your current CafeTran version before updating. Then update the program as described in the announcement post above.

No, I didn't even know there is a second build. Will the export feature the identical number of rows the original Excel file had?

I don't think that issue affected your Excel rows during the Join segment action, apart from autopropagation.
