Segmentation of xliff files

Hello CafeTraners

I've read Amos' post about segmentation in CafeTrans

I'd like to know if it is possible with an srx file to further segment an xliff (not sdlxliff) file with segmentation on the paragraph already? (into sentence segmenation

Could this also be done just by configuration of the xliff filter in CafeTrans or is a special srx file needed?

I'm asking these question on behalf of a software company whose name I haven't given as I don't want my first ever post on your forum to seem like spam.

Thanks in advance

Hi SafeTex,

Once the xliff file is segmented either in CafeTran or some external tool, you can not segment it any further. You can join and split the segments if this is a CafeTran native project.

Hello Igor

It's not a native CafeTrans project.

So the segmentation would have to be done by a tool like Olifant beforehand I guess (or possibly by our platform)

Or we settle for CafeTrans users using the split function or accepting paragraph segmentation.

But we'd have to test your split function to be on the safe side. If I sent you a small xliff file, maybe just a paragraph with a few sentences, would you be prepared to split it for me and do a pseudo-translation (or MT)

I could then see if it works at our end.

PS. Have you worked out what the software is?

That's correct.

I wouldn't be able to do it as CT can only split and join segments if the xliff file is created in CafeTran itself. I would recommend properly segmenting your xliff file beforehand. If it has some standard extension (.xlf or .xliff) and follows the xliff specification, CafeTran should handle it just fine. You can check it in the trial version too.

Hello again

Any extra steps increase the risks, especially as the xliff file has a lot of coding and tags in it. there is no bold or italics (in answer to Woorden), as it is all tagged if I'm not mistaken.

I see that you have a very active YouTube channel.

The software offers a free trial period with absolutely no strings attached (no bank details required)

Would you be interested in trying it out with a view to CafeTrans users? (and finding with us the best solution for CafeTrans users on segmentation)

Perhaps even a YouTube video.

In return, we can surely reach agreement on a free version for you for 'testing' purposes only and small jobs

Just for the record, I'm a translator myself and you can often see me on Yahoo groups including memoQ

I don't work for this company but help them out on the translator perspective side. I'll contact you thru Proz as I don't want to be thought of as a spammer

Hello
I was kind of answering and asking Igor on this.
But I did send him a message via Proz as I understand that the forum has "limits" on the posts, so I wanted to toggle over to email.
However, if someone else (creators, moderators, cafetrans training) at CafeTrans is interested in any way in working on this project, that would be great.
Could you email me in this case? You have my email from my account I suppose.

Regards
