Locked segment status

 Hi everyone!

Just one short question:
What exactly is the purpose/effect of the "Locked" segment status?

TIA for your answer
Martin

Locked segments are skipped (jumped over) during navigation by default. They are also not included in tasks or conversions.

Thanks for the info!

And is the text of the locked segments included in statistics?

No, they are not included in the counts.

Hi Igor,

Can you explain what "They are also not included in tasks or conversions." means exactly? Specifically:

Will changes made to unlocked segments propagate to locked segments (I assume not, but want to make sure)...

Will segments that are locked show up in the results of an unfiltered concordance search?

Hi Alyssa,

Locked segments are treated as excluded from any further processing. Changes are not propagated to them and they will not show up in the search results. You can either lock some source (empty) segments that do not need any translation, or lock the translated segments that are final and protected from accidental editing.

Hi Igor,

A follow-up question on "locked segments". I've locked a segment to prevent propagation. I have to submit the finished translation to my client for proofreading (probably in Studio). With the locked segment cause a compatibility problem? Will the proofreader be able to edit it if they wish?

Thanks in advance,

Ross

If you lock Studio segments in CafeTran, this status is active for the current CT session only. They can't interfere with the locked segment status set in Studio by the project manager so this status is not saved across sessions and the proofreader will not notice them in Studio.

Is this also true for Studio segments that you mark as checked in CT? Active for the session only? They do seem to stay across sessions, so this does not seem applicable. Confirmation  needed.

Jean

Sorry, just tested, confirming checked segments in CT are also set as signed-off in SDL Trados.

It's a pity "Approved" does not get a different segment status in CT though (it appears as translated, no visible difference with translated segments), as this is the status you would set as a proofreader.
