CafeTran Espresso 2017 Harbinger - Release Candidate 3

Ho ho ho,

CafeTran Espresso 2017 Harbinger aka Release Candidate 3 is available for download. The update can be performed via the Drag & Drop procedure as follows:

1. Run CafeTran.

2. Download 20161222_update.zip file from here (do not unzip or rename the file after downloading) and place it on your desktop.

Note: On Mac OSX, the Safari web browser may unzip the file automatically after downloading. To prevent this, just use the right-click menu and choose the "Download Linked File" command.

3. Drag and drop the downloaded file into the Project Dashboard and restart the program.

Alternatively, you can install the update via the Update button in the Help > About panel instead of dragging and dropping.

What's new:

  • New Term/Fragment dialog got a button to add a new entry without closing the dialog. It enables translators to add multiple TM/glossary entries at a time.
  • The refreshed dark and white eye-friendly texture themes (menu View > Themes). Image background transparent dark/bright themes are there to reduce eye strain and allow brightness adjustment with the slider in the source segment toolbar.
  • Polished Nimbus look and feel becomes default on Windows and Linux systems. It does not replace your current look and feel. You will need to choose it in Preferences > Appearance tab if you wish to try it.
  • New option: View > Tabs > Bottom tabs placement.

The Ctrl is used that way in other dialogues too. It's CafeTran consistency.

Hi Igor -- It has been several months since I used Cafetran. Is there a page where I can view all recent changes made to the application? Thank you. -- Steven D. in Canada

Hi,
after one of recent updates I noticed two problems that persist.
First, "Hide source segment tags" option switches itself on from time to time.
Second, even when "Hide memory match colour in the source segment" is on, the software still marks some memory fragments with glossary colour.

Hi Steven,

Please see the main/first message of this year's updates in CafeTran News section. All the changes are listed there.

It could be the accidental hitting of the keyboard shortcut for this switch.

There used to be a Save button, but I don't see it any more. How does one save the work?

Hi Andrey,

It is under Project menu

Project > Save project

Selcuk

Yes, I fount it, but I remember the time when there was Save button. Is there a chance it might get back?

Hi Andrey,

CafeTran saves the project/glossaries/memories for you regularly during the work and when you exit it as well.  There is no need for interface buttons when the action is infrequent or it is handled by the program automatically.

Hi Igor,

In Preferences > Workflow, I see

Auto-save project (segments): 3

Auto-save memory (segments): 5

Auto-save glossary (entries): 1

So CafeTran does not save regularly, e.g. in each 10 minutes, but saves when there are 3 new segments translated. The unit in autosave is not time but segments/entries. One will lose only the last 2 segments if the program crashes or power goes. Hope I understood it correctly.

Hello Selcuk,

> Hope I understood it correctly.

That's correct if the power is off unexpectedly.
