Anyone with .idml + CT experience here?
Does it work well?
I have to translate an sdlprj with 5 .idml files inside, but I'd rather do this job with CT than Studio.
Hi to all,
Not topical anymore - 3 years later, I know (but I did not use CT 3 years ago). I know it might seem awkward.
Now 2018 I can say that I get regular projects in IDML. Using a Mac and not having any possibility to check my final result, I always ask my customer to get a PDF from the source text too. This way I see the layout and length critical elements. My customer is very pleased and does not complain about any reformating. It is a direct customer, so the assistant would tell me, because in the past she had to copy manually from a Word file into Indesign.
So CT works perfectly well with Indesign on the Mac. Indesign being compiled on a Windows PC.
The only thing I am still looking for is a good viewer on Mac for Indesign files showing more than just the first page or the first 2 pages.

Anything is possible on a Mac. Try Scribus. (free)

I just remembered there's an InDesign version for the Mac. You'll probably have to pay through the nose for it, but they may have a trial version that can help you out for a month or so.
Many thanks for your replies.
I tried Scribus 1.5.4. Just installed it. But it crashes upon opening my .idml-files.
You are correct. Adobe offers a 280€/year annual subscription for InDesign.
Just for checking the layout of my files ... no thank you.
So I will wait for Scribus 1.5.4 ( I actually had the old production version 1.4.7, which did not support .idml ) or any 1.5 to become a stable release.
Fact is, lieber Hans, that I do not have a ppx, customer has no Studio version allowing to make packages so he sent an sdl project file.

Strange, it works here (with an older version of Scribus):
Yep, Hans, that's what I'm doing now.
Always helpful, thanks.
It would be interesting to observe the difference in quality of the ID filters of:
Meaning that if you have access to one of the other CAT tools, you should use the one higher in the order to achieve the best result, making your work easier.
What kind of preview are you using? PDF?
I'm currently investigating ways to get rid of disturbing soft hyphens, since they hinder syncing. For obvious reasons I don't want to convert to DOCX (yet).
